We’ve been in the market for some time now, but we’re proud to finally share that we’re fully operational in Guadalajara, Mexico! It’s long been a goal of ours to expand our operations beyond Canada, and we couldn’t be more excited for all that this city has to offer. As a company, we have ambitious goals to help bring opportunities to global talent, and Mexico is the first in what will be a series of moves to expand into Latin America.

There were a number of reasons why we couldn’t wait to get started in Guadalajara, and here are a few of them explored in more depth. The people and weather are fantastic, with a host of activities and the beach just a few short hours away, but we’ll let you experience that for yourself when you visit.

Spirit

There is a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit that quickly became evident as we began talking to engineers and founders in Guadalajara.  While this is true across Mexico, we found a unique, tech entrepreneurial spirit here: a willingness to be contrarian, to take risks and start something new. This is evidenced by the impressive organic startup growth, venture investors and capital taking a deeper look at the endeavors here in the market, and the rise of Guadalajara in the international conversation about great startup hubs.

Ecosystem

The city of Guadalajara features a long history of building hardware, which over the years has matured and branched out into highly sophisticated software development. It continues to be a rapidly growing ecosystem of tech opportunities. Additionally, there is an incredibly supportive attitude from large industry, universities, and founders. Meetups such as Traguitos, Hackers & Founders, and GDLJS feature members that represent all parts of that development shift, as well as the builders of tomorrow.

Education

Some of Mexico’s most prestigious universities claim Guadalajara as their home. Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Guadalajara (ITESM), Universidad Jesuita de Guadalajara (ITESO), and Universidad de Guadalajara (UDG) are a few of the top-rated universities that have Guadalajara at the forefront of the tech movement in Mexico. Along with those leading universities and coding schools that churn out thousands of Mexico’s best developer talent, there are also a number of larger incumbent multinational corporations-Intel, IBM, Oracle, and Cisco-providing ample opportunities for growth.

With those factors in mind, we knew we’d have an active, engaged community of engineers to build the Terminal experience. As we’ve done in all of our previous offices, we approached the move first by striving to understand the local culture and flavor, while ensuring that our Members are able to work seamlessly with the companies they support. That initial strategy is paying off now as we’ve seen explosive growth. We’ve seen early success with partners such as Crew, OpenGov and Presence Learning, to name a few and more are engaging with us daily! We’re continually adding new roles, and are committed to our mission of connecting top talent to the world’s leading companies.

Our goal of creating a premium community for high-quality developers working on fascinating products at massive scale is well underway, and we’re looking to expand to 100 developers by the end of next year. Check out more information about our Terminal office, and sign up if you’re interested in getting in updates as we grow!

Finally, a special thanks to our local partners that have assisted in our launch and welcomed us to this great city. We couldn’t have done it without you and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship.

Onwards,

Luke
