Announcing Terminal’s $17 Million Series B Funding

We started Terminal with one firm belief: talent is global; opportunities are not. We asked ourselves, what if we change this? How can we bring incredible opportunities to talented individuals, regardless of location? How can we empower people to do their best work at all times?

We know it’s not easy to describe what we do in a single word. We have built a business that brings recruiting, people operations, co-working, and community together into what we call Remote Teams. Ultimately our focus is reducing barriers to connect the right people together to make magic happen and create the environment so they thrive.

Today we’re excited to announce a milestone that will help us continue to shape the future of Remote Teams. We’ve closed a $17 million Series B funding round led by 8VC, with participation from Atomic, Cathay Innovation, Cherubic Ventures, Craft Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, Lightspeed Venture Partners and others. This brings our total funding amount to $30 million.

We’re honored to have earned the trust of such esteemed investors. These investors work with many fast-growing companies that face the challenges we solve – finding elite engineers to fuel innovation and growth.

Many companies have tried to build a remote workforce, but in most cases, they focus on working from home, or maybe in a shared office space alongside workers of all types. The former can be isolating and the latter can be distracting – the result of either being a reduction of employee happiness and productivity.

At Terminal, we’re laser-focused on powering a movement where companies can grow their business with us through a better remote work experience. Today, dozens of industry-leading companies rely on us to identify elite engineering talent that will help them turn their ideas into real products and services. We feel honored to work side by side with forward-thinking companies that share our vision for a world without borders and thank each and every one of our customers for being part of our story.

We firmly believe that teams create exponential effects, powering the next big ideas and facilitating the building of world-class products. That’s why we focus specifically on building an environment that engineers love in order to foster remote team work. We create events and community around topics engineers care about — giving them resources to learn and solve problems with in-person connection. We exist to give them an experience they can’t find anywhere else.

Members are the core of Terminal. We call them members because they are more than employees–they’re part of a broader community of engineers that share, learn and grow together. We strive to give all members the opportunity to accelerate their careers through connecting with some of the most exciting companies on the planet. And because we build our Terminal offices where they are, they don’t have to make the tough choice of deciding between an exciting job in Silicon Valley–which requires uprooting and facing all the costs and tribulations of a major move–and their home. As one of our members, Anne Paling said “it’s the best of both worlds.”

With this new round of investment, we will quickly scale our operations, giving engineers an unparalleled experience and community, while expanding innovation around the globe. This investment allows us to continue doing more of what our clients and members love, while helping scale up in 3 key areas: global expansion, new products and accelerated team building. Check back here in the coming months for updates on all three fronts.

Thank you for your continued support and trust. We’re just getting started, and we couldn’t be more excited for what the future holds.

Onward,
Clay Kellogg
CEO, Terminal
